Worship is much more than the singing of a few songs,
whether hymns or contemporary, and is more than the playing of instruments,
whether pipe organ or electric keyboard, with or without drums, and
whether standing or sitting.
Within the context of church coming together worship is
a collective experience by which God is honoured and is given his rightful
place among his people. Where God becomes the focus, and where the music
and the songs are stripped of significance.
Within the broader context of life, worship is much more
than the weekly collective experience of a Sunday morning service, but
true worship is a lifestyle where is honoured and is given his rightful
place in our daily living.
All that said though, the fact is, the collective worship
experience within the context of church should be a positive experience
as this is key to the spiritual development of the worshipper and to
the growth of the local church.
Jesus said, "a time is coming and has now come when
the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for
they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and
his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth" John 4:23-24.
